Record and review business trips

Start GPS trips on iPhone/iPad, add trips on Mac and correct distances before using them.

Prepare for tracking

Add your business vehicle first. Confirm the active country and tax year, then open mileage from the dashboard or a job’s Trips tab. Location permission is required for live GPS tracking on iPhone/iPad; the device must provide usable location data. Mac uses manual entry and optional address-based route estimates.

Record a GPS trip

  1. Before starting, choose the vehicle, job or Business overhead, purpose and any starting odometer value. Resolve any unfinished trip first.
  2. Choose Start Trip and allow the required location access. Confirm recording has started before driving.
  3. Choose Stop Trip at your destination. This pauses the trip for review; it is not saved yet.
  4. Use Resume to continue the same journey, Save Trip to finish it, or Discard if the unsaved trip is not needed.
  5. After saving, open the trip’s details to edit its vehicle, purpose, odometer values or distance where offered.
Keep in mind

The tracker’s details are editable before Start. Once a trip is recording or paused, you cannot edit those fields there. Save first and edit the saved trip, or discard the draft if you do not need it.

Add a trip on Mac

  1. Open the trip action for a job or the dashboard. Choose the trip date within the selected tax year.
  2. Enter origin and destination. Use the offered route calculation to estimate road distance, or enter the distance yourself.
  3. Select the vehicle, job, purpose and notes, check the distance unit, then save.
  4. Remember that a calculated route is an estimate between addresses, not a recording of the path driven.

Review a saved or unfinished trip

Open a saved trip to inspect its route, timing and distance. Use the relevant edit action for vehicle, job, purpose, notes or odometer readings. An interrupted GPS signal can leave an incomplete trail; use a reliable mileage record when correcting it. A recording or paused draft cannot be edited in the tracker. If it is still recording on another device, stop it there before trying to recover or save it here.

Use the correct mileage amount

A custom rate in Settings is a budgeting rate. Tax Center uses published dated rates and report options, not simply this override. Vehicle-method eligibility and yearly limits can affect the report. Keep vehicle and distance records complete for your accountant.
